If you have been to the West Indies, you may have noticed that they make the most wonderful tables out of three sticks and two copper plates, one large and one smaller. The sticks will hold up the platters and bingo you have an ethnic nightstand. West Indies furniture has a tremendous amount of turned wood in it, just one row after another in much of the furniture. Thus, purchasing a nightstand that has those tiny turned "bars" on the outside of the nightstand sounds absolutely perfect and will bring that West Indies flavor to your bedroom very adequately. If you have an old armoire though, use a jig saw to cut out a rectangular opening in the doors, and youll have room to put in a rattan insert or bamboo insert into it.
The thing about nightstands is that people hardly notice them except when they need a table to put some things on. It is only then when they have the satisfaction of putting things on top of a night table that people appreciate the serviceability of nightstands. There are many kinds of nightstands being sold in furniture shops and they are usually considered minor furniture because they are just small inexpensive items. Actually nightstands are night tables or bedside tables usually found in the bedroom near the bed or in any convenient spot in the bedroom.
Another great thing about nightstands today is that they do not have to be next to the bed. Because they are available in so many styles and colors they look attractive in any room of the house as well as out on the porch filled with plants. One in the bathroom might hold soaps and towels, one in the living room can hold magazines and remote controls, one in the kitchen can be a tea-stand and one in the entryway can hold a basket items such as keys. Todays bed stands can hold a lot more in the bedroom as well. Ones with space at the bottom can hold books, drawers can be filled up with bed essentials such as lotions, medicines, music players and phones. Iron bed tables can even have things, such as necklaces, hooked on them ready for the morning. Stands with several drawers are good for those who prefer to hide their things while stands with open shelving are perfect for displaying treasures. Lastly, nightstands do not have to match each other. As long as they look good together everything works.
