Another thing to consider when choosing the right nightstand for your bedroom is what style nightstand will fit in with the room. The answer to that question lies within the overall decor of your bedroom. What is the overall theme of your bedroom? You want to choose a nightstand that will fit in with your bedrooms theme. For example, is your bedroom styled in a classic, traditional theme? If so you may want to go with a nightstand in a more traditional wood finish like cherry wood or mahogany. This type nightstand will easily fit in with a traditional style. Or does your bedroom have more of a modern, contemporary look? If this is the case then you want to go with a nightstand that will reflect that look. You dont want a nightstand that overpowers the room. After all a nightstand should not be the focal point of your room. Its there mainly for storage so it should blend in with the rest of the furniture in your bedroom. You want your bedroom furniture to look like a cohesive set. Therefore its important to choose a nightstand that doesnt stick out.
Now granted the same "hideaway" nightstand could be there instead, with perhaps one drawer and sliding doors being provided to keep your privacy as to whats in your nightstand. Interestingly enough there are some bedrooms that are so small that even having a nightstand is prohibitive space wise. Thus, those people tend to hang lamps from the ceiling or install them into the wall if thats feasible, as Ive often found in efficiencies. The clever room decorator will have some sort of table that functions as both side table for the couch, and functions as a nightstand at night. Usually these are on rollers, making it very easy to make the transition. This works very well with a Murphy bed as you can imagine.
Then you can buy nightstands of the same color wood, and cut out the sides of the nightstands and insert the same bamboo or rattan insert. This will bring forth the West Indies look to even the nightstands! You could bring the nightstands together with perhaps pineapple shaped bases on the lamps that you put on each nightstand. Carrying a theme through is what makes personal decorating so very much fun. One very artistic lady used a butlers tray as her nightstand, you know the kind that folds up but have an X in the leg portion when it is open? She purchased the "nightstand" out of the same dark wood that her hand carved four-poster was made of. The effect is absolutely startling as far as the nightstand goes!
