A really "funky" nightstand can be made out of two brass serving platters with hidden brackets underneath the platters to hold it all up. This along with the dark wooden legs that are tied in makes a superb Middle Eastern look, blended with perhaps other eclectic furniture if you so desire. Imagine if you will, a bed that has a wide amount of wood on each side of the bed, encasing the mattress as it were. This kind of unique style bed will probably hold drawers in its base for ample storage, and the edges of the bed act as nightstands for small items necessary to the sleeper. This type of bed also does away with the need for a nightstand.
Another great thing about nightstands today is that they do not have to be next to the bed. Because they are available in so many styles and colors they look attractive in any room of the house as well as out on the porch filled with plants. One in the bathroom might hold soaps and towels, one in the living room can hold magazines and remote controls, one in the kitchen can be a tea-stand and one in the entryway can hold a basket items such as keys. Todays bed stands can hold a lot more in the bedroom as well. Ones with space at the bottom can hold books, drawers can be filled up with bed essentials such as lotions, medicines, music players and phones. Iron bed tables can even have things, such as necklaces, hooked on them ready for the morning. Stands with several drawers are good for those who prefer to hide their things while stands with open shelving are perfect for displaying treasures. Lastly, nightstands do not have to match each other. As long as they look good together everything works.
If you have been to the West Indies, you may have noticed that they make the most wonderful tables out of three sticks and two copper plates, one large and one smaller. The sticks will hold up the platters and bingo you have an ethnic nightstand. West Indies furniture has a tremendous amount of turned wood in it, just one row after another in much of the furniture. Thus, purchasing a nightstand that has those tiny turned "bars" on the outside of the nightstand sounds absolutely perfect and will bring that West Indies flavor to your bedroom very adequately. If you have an old armoire though, use a jig saw to cut out a rectangular opening in the doors, and youll have room to put in a rattan insert or bamboo insert into it.
Another thing to consider when choosing the right nightstand for your bedroom is what style nightstand will fit in with the room. The answer to that question lies within the overall decor of your bedroom. What is the overall theme of your bedroom? You want to choose a nightstand that will fit in with your bedrooms theme. For example, is your bedroom styled in a classic, traditional theme? If so you may want to go with a nightstand in a more traditional wood finish like cherry wood or mahogany. This type nightstand will easily fit in with a traditional style. Or does your bedroom have more of a modern, contemporary look? If this is the case then you want to go with a nightstand that will reflect that look. You dont want a nightstand that overpowers the room. After all a nightstand should not be the focal point of your room. Its there mainly for storage so it should blend in with the rest of the furniture in your bedroom. You want your bedroom furniture to look like a cohesive set. Therefore its important to choose a nightstand that doesnt stick out.
There are endless options of night tables available online from which you can select the one that suits perfectly to your kids choice and requirements. Kids nightstands become functional fairies as well as fashion since they are decorated in various themes of flowers, airplanes, or bunnies. Kids night tables are also available in classic style with hand-painted detail, scalloped edges or carved legs. For a more prominent contemporary look that complements well with your kids room decor, many online furniture shops offer kids nightstands with smooth edges, sleek lines along with bright colors and accents or favorite characters that makes your childs rooms even livelier and attractive.
